We are commercial fishermen in Alaska who sustainably harvest the world’s best wild seafood for our families, our communities, our state, and our world.
Many of us are fishing families who are now passing this tradition onto the next generation. Some of us are the first in our family to fish but have already made the life long commitment of investing in Alaskan fisheries. We are your friends and neighbors.

We represent some of the 26,500 Alaskan residents who are directly employed by the seafood industry which remains a cornerstone of Alaska’s economy.
Every year, our incredible wild fisheries and the people who work in them, provide enough food to feed one serving of seafood to every American for more than a month!

The Alaska seafood industry directly employs approximately 58,700 workers every year, including 37,700 FTE (Full Time Equivalent) jobs, more than any other private sector industry in Alaska.

In 2017 and 2018 the Alaska seafood industry contributed an annual average of $5.6 billion in economic output to Alaska’s state economy.

Alaskan residents owned 14,173 fishing permits in 2018 (85% of all fishing permits in Alaska). Each of these permits represents an independent business and an Alaskan livelihood.

It’s not just fishermen who are employed by the seafood industry. The positive effects of a good fishing season are enjoyed by many. Processing workers, managers, marketers and shipping companies all benefit from our wild harvest. Boat builders, electricians, net-menders and supply stores all benefit from a fisherman’s thriving business.
Sustainable Science
The commercial fishing industry in Alaska is special. Not only is it built upon the principal of sustainable yield from our state’s constitution, but it is also managed scientifically by Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Carefully monitored catch limits, population dynamics, and realistic escapement goals ensure that our wild fisheries will continue to be abundant year after year.
Modern Methods
Alaska’s commercial fisheries have been able to change with the times, using methods that are better for the environment, safer for our fishermen and enhance the quality of our harvest. All the while, we have still maintained our original values of community, food security and respect for the resource.
Tradition and Respect
As Alaskans, we respect tradition and embrace innovation. We respect other user groups and recognize the right of our fellow Alaskans to sustainably use natural resources for subsistence and recreation and furthermore understand that we are a part of this system. We can all be good neighbors in this great big state of ours.
